January Solo Festival info: Those of you who participating in the high school solo festival on Fri/Sat January 11/12, 2008 should have received a letter from Mr. Samulski with the necessary information on it. You need to see him the very first day back (Jan 7th) to complete the playing permit for your solo. The same holds true for those performing in the jazz ensemble solo festival on January 25/26, 2008. Any questions??? See Mr. S. or email him.
CHRISTMAS CONCERTS! The Symphonic Band & Concert Band created an evening of outstanding seasonal music on Wednesday, December 19th. From the opening number "C'est Noel" and the following seasonal sing-a-long by the concert band thru the traditional concert ending performance of Leroy Anderson's "Sleigh Ride" those in attendance left with a smile on their faces and seasonal joy in their hearts!! This concert also featured performances by the Select Choir as well as the first public performance of the percussion ensemble (see below).
VETERAN'S DAY CONCERT AN OVERWHELMING SUCCESS!!! From the large American Flag hung on the back of the stage to all of the music performed by the student ensembles, Patriotism permeated the APAC on Thursday, November 8th for a tribute to our Veterans...past and present. Guest narrator, Rich Funke from TV10, lent a recognizable yet professional voice to the importance of the evening!
PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE The new Athena Percussion Ensemble made their first public performances during the month of December. On Thursday, December 13th the group performed for the annual Senior Citizen luncheon in the lobby of the APAC. Those in attendance marveled at the verstitlity of the group. On Wednesday, December 19th the percussion ensemble performed in their very first concert. They were nervously excited as they prepared for everyone to see them for the very first time. They had worked extremely hard to grasp this new concept of musicality and their hard work and dedication paid off. The audience thoroughly enjoyed this unique, "stomp-like" group and looks forward to future (and even more creative) performances!!
Music Lessons!!! Please read and check all current music lesson schedules around the band room and those posted on the teachers rooms. We are in for two weeks and then there are exams (no lessons during exam week), and that ends the marking period. Then we are back for three weeks and then mid-winter break. Stay on top of your scheduled music lessons!
